Police seek suspect in armed robbery of Redmond convenience store
by Cheryl McDermott

Redmond police are looking for a man armed with a rifle who robbed the Daisy Quik Shop in southwest Redmond Thursday afternoon, prompting an elementary school lockdown as officers searched the area for the suspect.

The robber entered the convenience store at 1242 SW Highland Avenue about 3:10 p.m., said Lt. Brian McNaughton, carrying what “appeared to be” a rifle.  The suspect demanded money from the cashier and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.  “The suspect may have left the area in a medium-to-dark colored vehicle similar to a Subaru Forrester or Jeep wagon,” said the lieutenant.

The robbery suspect was captured on the video surveillance system of the convenience store.  He is described as a 30-40 year old male with light brown or reddish hair, including a mustache and goatee.  He was last seen wearing a gray polo shirt, black pants, and a black baseball-style cap with a maroon bill.  Photo provided by RPD.

Nearby Lynch Elementary School was locked down for about 20 minutes while officers searched for the suspect.  The lock-down was lifted once the area surrounding the school -- which is about three blocks away from the convenience store -- was cleared.

Lt. McNaughton encourages anyone with information about the incident to call police dispatch’s non-emergency line at 541.388.0170.
