Transient held in burglary of Bend pharmacy, Dr.’s office
by Cheryl McDermott

Evidence found at the scene of a break-in at a doctor’s office where the burglar attempted but failed to gain entrance to an adjoining pharmacy led to the arrest of a transient for an earlier burglary at another Bend pharmacy, police reported.

Christopher Lee Bouchard, a 37-year old transient, was taken into custody this morning and charged with two counts each of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, Lt. Cory Darling said.

The first burglary occurred about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, said Darling.  Bend Police officers responded to the Bend Pill Box at 325 NE Franklin Avenue and found a suspect was able to gain entrance to the pharmacy by breaking a window with a large rock.  The manager wasn’t able to immediately determine if anything was missing.

Then, about four hours later at 12:45 a.m. Monday, a second burglary was reported at Rose Pharmacy, which is located in the same building as High Lakes Health Care at 1247 NE Medical Center Drive.  Responding officers located a broken window into the High Lakes Health Care office of Dr. Michael Mastrangelo, and found the office including sample packages of medications had been ransacked.

The suspect had attempted to break into Rose Pharmacy through the ceiling, but failed, said the lieutenant.  Evidence left at the scene ultimately led to the arrest of Brouchard, Darling said, and officers were able to connect the suspect to the Bend Pill Box burglary.
