Minor injury crash causes power outage, teen arrested
by Cheryl McDermott

A 17-year-old boy accused of drunk and reckless driving struck a guide-wire to a power pole in Sisters yesterday afternoon, sustaining minor injuries in the crash and causing a power outage.

Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were called to North Locust Street at East Green Ridge Avenue Tuesday afternoon about 3:10 p.m., Sgt. Chad Davis reported.

They found an abandoned 1990 Honda Accord that had apparently hit the power pole guide-wire and crashed into some rocks on the west side of the road.

According to Sgt. Davis, witnesses saw the vehicle swerving back and forth across North Locust Street before it lost control, and the driver was observed running away after the crash.

The teen returned to the area and was examined by medical technicians with the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District.  He sustained minor injuries in the crash, said Davis.

The unidentified boy was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving, and then later released to guardians in Sisters.  His blood alcohol content was .16, twice the legal limit, said the sergeant.

Central Electric Cooperative power customers reported outages, and a responding utility crew found the pole did not sustain any damage.  Sisters Public Works assisted with debris removal and traffic control, and power was later restored to the area.
