by Bend Weekly News Sources

Bend City Manager, Andy Anderson has officially appointed Eric King as the new Assistant City Manager. King begins his tenure on April 16, and brings to the position an extensive and diverse background in management, citizen involvement and project management.

In the ten years prior to relocating to Bend, King was employed by the City of Portland, Oregon. For the past seven years, he worked for the City’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement where his work focused on program development and management. The bureau provides a range of direct neighborhood livability services and programs as well as organizational and capacity building for the City’s community engagement system, which includes neighborhood associations and other community-based organizations. Most recently, King was the Bureau’s Business Operations Manager, providing fiscal and human resource oversight as well as managing special projects for the Mayor’s Office, including involvement in Portland’s VisionPDX project. Prior to his work with the Office of Neighborhood Involvement, King implemented programs to ensure fair and equitable contracting practices among small businesses for the City of Portland.

“City staff and the Bend 2030 Board are looking forward to working with Eric,” said City Manager Andy Anderson. “Eric has the experience, leadership skills, integrity and enthusiasm to lead both the staff and the Bend 2030 Board in their ongoing goals to build Bend into an even better city.”

Under the general direction of the City Manger, the Assistant Manager is responsible for managing the City operations, programs, and policies, including special projects. This position also serves as the City liaison to the Bend 2030 Vision Board and is responsible for promoting the Bend 2030 Vision and working with community partners in monitoring the vision’s progress.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to work closely with Bend’s 2030 board to fully realize the vision set forth by this community,” said King. “I look forward to representing the City to ensure its commitments are fulfilled and produce results that mean something to this community.”

has a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Development from Portland State University.  He has been in Oregon for ten years and is originally from Madison, Wisconsin.  He enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with his wife and son and is looking forward to being an arms length distance to the Cascade Mountains.
