Fatal hit-and-run crash closes Third Street
by Cheryl McDermott

Bend Police have advised that an ongoing investigation into a fatal hit and run crash has closed both lanes of traffic on Third Street between Reed Lane and Powers Road.  Reed Lane between Third Street and Parrell Road is also closed.   Motorists are advised to take alternate routes of travel.

According to Lt. Ken Mannix, the incident was reported about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.  Bend Police and Oregon State Police are currently on scene investigating the crash.

Information on the victim and suspect vehicle is limited at this point, Mannix said, but it is known that the suspect vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage.

Bend Police asks that anyone who has information on the case to call 322.2960.

  • Isn't it amazing how everyone has so much to say and the details are just totally wrong? By now we all know who the victim was of the hit and run on 3rd Street. It is a horrible thing that has happened and it was most likely due to some irresponsible young man that has been given too much in his short lifetime and a parent that was not being a parent but was in the thick of illegal activity himself. We can only expect that our kids will be as good as what we deliver. If they don't make it to that level then we have to realize that they have made choices for themselves that were counter productive. I am a parent, I watch what the kids in this town and other towns do. I have lived many places and I find that the drugs and alcohol, fast cars and absent parents or parents that don't take the time are the ones that contribute to the problems with the kids today. This whole event sickens me and makes me question humanity as a whole. Kids, quit worrying about being high or drunk...find a different way, life is too short, life is precious and you are part of that life. I hope that all of these "men" see justice like they never imagined.

  • EricB> Your totally full of BS and stop spreading false rumors. According to police dispatch, they're looking for a newer 2006 Nissan Sentra (lic. 166CXE) with 3 male occupants (with a Robert Battles being listed as a person of interest) believed to be heading towards the San Diego area. I usually never post this sort of thing online, but this newspaper should have deleted your post immediately.

  • Someone just told me that police have found the firebird and person responsible for hitting this poor lady. I hope they charge them with murder.
