Deschutes Water Levels To Temporarily Drop For Body Recovery
by Bend Weekly News Sources

Anglers and boaters should use caution on the Lower Deschutes River between Pelton Dam and the mouth of the river on Saturday, July 15th. The water flow will be reduced by about 25% to aid in the recovery of the body of Danielle Hagler, a 17-year-old girl from Oregon City who drowned in a rafting accident on July 6th.

Bureau of Land Management officials are warning people who recreate on the Lower Deschutes River that water levels will fluctuate dramatically Saturday when gates on the Pelton Dam are closed.

Portland General Electric engineers will lower water flows from the normal 4,000 cubic feet per second to 3,000 cfs on the river between 3 and 5 a.m., to assist Wasco County Search and Rescue personnel.

The reduced flow will be maintained for six hours and then returned to the 4,000 cfs level over a two-hour period. The public is advised to avoid areas in the middle of the river that are normally submerged to prevent being stranded when levels return.
