A Bend man was arraigned Wednesday, July 19 for stabbing a woman in the abdomen at the First Lutheran Church in downtown Bend.
Floyd Allan Hughes, 45, was charged with robbery in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, assault in the second degree, burglary in the first degree and menacing, according to Beth Bagley with the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.
“We requested a $200,000 bond,” Bagley said. “He is still currently in custody.”
The victim, Anna Munson-Lund, 40, was working in an office at the church, located at 231 NW Idaho Ave. Around 10:40 a.m. she heard some noises coming from the kitchen area and went to investigate, according to the Bend Police Department.
The suspect demanded money, stabbed Munson-Lund and then ran away, according to the police. The victim was able to call 911. She was then rushed to St. Charles Hospital where she was treated and released on Tuesday.

Hughes was found in the immediate area of the crime scene, Det. Sgt. Rex Catt reported. Further investigation resulted in his arrest.
Dennis Douglass, the elected president of the congregation said Munson-Lund is now recovering. “I understand that she is home and resting comfortably.”
He says the congregation has a mixture of emotions. “They are sympathetic for Anna. She is a really caring person who responds to people’s needs, so for someone to do something to her is really upsetting.”
Parishioners are also shocked that this could happen. “There have been cases of people breaking in, but never something like this,” he said.
There is also a security concern. “Which we will be reviewing,” Douglass said. However, he adds there has to be a delicate balance.
“This is a place of worship where people can come in with their everyday needs,” Douglass said. “And not to be open; well, that would not be a church.”
Douglass, who attended the arraignment, said that Hughes is scheduled to enter a plea on July 26.
Ultimately, Douglass said it’s important for people not to rush to conclusions. “One incident does not make a trend.”
