The sixth annual LibertyBank North American Pond Skimming Championships will be hosted on closing day, May 20. During this entertaining event, skiers and snowboarders attempt to cross an 80-foot icy pond. Participants are judged on their ability to cross the pond, costume and overall style. All participants are also entered to win a Mt. Bachelor Full Season Pass for the 2007-08 Season. Live music, barbecue and kayak demos add to the fun and welcome the transition from winter to summer. The top three finishers take home “Summer Prize Packs” supplied by local sponsors. The event starts at 10 A.M. on the slopes in front of the West Village Lodge. Registration is open now through the day of the event. The cost is $25 and participants must be at least nine-years-old.
“This is it,” states Carly Carmichael, Director of Marketing for Mt. Bachelor. With over 80 inches of snow still at the base, it’s time to come up and get in your last turns before summer is officially here.”
Currently, Mt Bachelor is open for Summit Season. Hours of operations are from 8 A.M. to 1 P.M. The Pine Marten Express lift operates daily and the Summit Express lift runs daily weather permitting. Thanks to recent snowfall, the mountain has 86 inches of snow at the base and 118 inches at mid-mountain.
