Six-month drug investigation leads to arrest of two
by Cheryl McDermott

A Bend traffic stop and subsequent search of the vehicle, combined with a raid on a Terrebonne residence in connection with a six-month narcotics investigation led to the arrest of a Redmond man and a woman police described as a transient.

A multi-agency investigation by the Redmond/Deschutes County Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team, and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the issuance of search warrants for a vehicle operated by Carolyn Christine Orrell, a 39-year old transient.

About 3 p.m. May 10, officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by Orrell and 48-year old Albert Valencia of Redmond on Reed Lane in Bend, and searched the vehicle as authorized by the warrant, Sgt. Michael Espinoza with the sheriff’s office reported.

A residence at 12430 NW Chinook Drive in Terrebonne was also searched, he said, and between the vehicle and the residence evidence was obtained tying Orrell to the sale of methamphetamine in the tri-county area.  Detectives seized over two ounces of methamphetamines, weight scales, packaging materials, cutting agents, and drug records.

During the search of the home, SCU detectives also recovered computer equipment stolen from a Redmond business that was estimated to be worth about $1,500.  Espinoza said that the stolen property was believed to be in Orrell’s possession.

The sergeant said Orrell is one of six people arrested and one-half pound of meth seized so far in connection with this particular ongoing investigation.
