The Bend City Police Department was kept busy responding to 3 crashes in less than one hour on Friday, August 4. A total of five people were transported to the hospital, traffic was backed up, and all were caused by driver error.
According to Lt. Ken Mannix, shortly before 4:30 pm Bend Police responded to a crash involving a pickup and a motorcycle at the intersection of Regal Road and Hunnel Road. The driver of a 1994 Chevy pickup turned into the path of a 1999 Harley Davidson operated by Nickolas Cristiano, a 53 year old Sisters resident. Cristiano was injured and transported to St. Charles Medical Center by Bend Fire Personnel.The driver of the pickup received a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way.
Less than one half hour later, shortly before 5 pm, a non-injury accident involving two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Neff Road and Medical Center Drive when a driver failed to obey a traffic device. Traffic was backed up for a considerable time period while the scene was investigated and the vehicles were removed, said Lt. Mannix.
Bend Police and Bend Fire were also called to another two-vehicle accident about 5:20 pm, this time at the intersection of 3rd Street and Reed Lane. Investigation determined the crash occurred when one of the vehicles failed to yield the right-of-way to another.Four persons were transported to St. Charles Medical Center by Bend Fire Personnel, all with minor injuries.
