Two Teenagers Cited for Burning Vehicle near Sisters
by Richard Burton

Two 19-year-old men were cited for reckless burning and illegal dumping of solid waste on public land in connection with a vehicle which was set afire on Spur Road north of the Tollgate subdivision in Sisters, Oregon.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday August 20, Deschutes County 911 Dispatch received a report of fire and heavy smoke at the location, said Sgt. Dan Bilyeu.

Firefighters from the Sisters, Camp Sherman Fire Department, United States Forest Service (USFS) and Oregon Department of Forestry responded to extinguish the fire; while USFS law enforcement and Sheriff’s deputies conducted an investigation into the cause.

According to Sgt. Bilyeu, they found a Subaru station wagon fully engulfed in flames with no one in the area to explain the cause.  The vehicle was completely destroyed and the license plates were either missing or destroyed.  The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) was located and a check of local records indicated prior law enforcement contacts associated with the vehicle.

Upon conclusion of the initial investigation, members of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Detective and Patrol Divisions contacted and cited both Joel William Mueller of Crooked River Ranch and Jesse David Stevens of Sisters, Bilyeu said, adding that the incident remains under investigation.
