A 71-year old Crescent, Oregon driver was injured when he pulled out in front of a pickup towing a ski boat in southeast Bend last evening, deputies reported.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Vance Lawrence, the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Ward Road and Bear Creek Road.
Preliminary investigation determined that a 1989 GMC S-15 pickup driven by Marvin Northey of Crescent was eastbound on Bear Creek Road when he pulled out from the stop sign in front of a 2004 Ford F-350 towing a ski boat that was traveling north on Ward Road. The Ford, unable to stop in time, struck the passenger side of Nothey’s vehicle and both pickups came to rest in a nearby field, Vance said.
Nothey was removed from his vehicle and transported by Bend Fire & Rescue ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center. Although the extent of his injuries are unknown, the sergeant characterized the crash as “serious”.
The driver of the Ford, Bend resident David Fassett, 30, and his passenger and son, three-year-old Ryder, were not hurt.
A Qwest telephone junction box was damaged during the crash, Vance said, with reported phone outages in the area.
Both vehicles and the boat were towed from the scene.
