Oregon Motorcyclist Dies in Highway 20 Crash near Sisters
by Bend Weekly News Sources

A North Plains-area man died Monday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 20W about twenty-five miles west of Sisters.  The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  Efforts to revive the victim by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper and a cardiologist traveling in the area were unsuccessful.

At 12:30 p.m. September 4, Kouman Ly, a 29-year-old resident of North Plains lost control of his 2002 Suzuki motorcycle while negotiating a right hand curve near milepost 75 when he lost control.  Ly was thrown from his motorcycle into the westbound lane and was struck by a 1990 Toyota Camry traveling in the opposite direction.

A cardiologist who happened to be traveling through the area and OSP Senior Trooper Alan Santiago performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the victim for about 25 minutes before he was pronounced dead at the scene.  According to an OSP news release, Ly was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Toyota who struck Ly was identified as James Nylander, a 58-year old Beaverton resident.  Neither he nor his passenger Donna Nylander, were injured.

Members of the Oregon State Police Bend Area Command Office, with assistance from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, investigated the crash. The cause is still under investigation.

Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with heavy holiday traffic and US Highway 20W was closed for approximately 20 minutes.
