A 21-year old Bend woman was killed late Monday afternoon when she over corrected after her car left the roadway on 27th Street near Knott Landfill, crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, and crashed into an SUV head-on.
According to Sgt. Ronny Dozier of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the accident scene about 5 p.m. September 11 to a report that a head-on crash had partially blocked 27th Street.
Initial investigation revealed that Devon MaGee, a 21-year old Bend woman was traveling north in a 1999 Honda Accord when she crashed into a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Howard Coberly, 82 of Gilchrist. Coberly moved toward the roadside in an attempt to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful.
Both vehicles received major front-end and side damage, said Dozier. MaGee was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Coberly was transported to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend with serious injuries.
The crash blocked the roadway for about 1 ½ hours, and remains under investigation.
The Bend Police Department, Bend Fire Department, and Deschutes County Road Department provided assistance to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
