Central Oregonians for Responsible Education (CORE) invite the public to an ice cream social to celebrate the pay-off of millions in school bonds and to kick-off the 2006 Bend-La Pine Schools construction bond campaign.
The event will take place Tuesday, September 19 from 5:00--6:00 p.m. on the lawn at the Bend-La Pine Schools Education Center located at 520 NW Wall Street. Former Bend Mayor Oran Teater will address attendees at 5:30 pm.
Organizers say community support for the event has been fantastic. “There will be a DJ, live music and root-beer floats for all attendees,” said CORE Co-chair Peggy Kinkade. “We’ll also be burning the retired bonds that taxpayers have paid off -– it’s just like putting a match to a paid mortgage.”
Attendees can also pick up car window signs and yard signs at the event and volunteer to help with the campaign.
