La Pine Domestic Violence Call Ends in Officer-involved Shooting, Death
by Richard Burton

Man allegedly attacks officer with knife

Deschutes County Sheriff’s officers and Oregon State Police troopers responding to a domestic violence call in La Pine on Friday shot and fatally wounded a man who allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife, authorities said.

Officers were responding to a 911 domestic violence call about 6:30 p.m. September 15 in the 52000 block of Lost Ponderosa Road in La Pine when the incident occurred.

“The officers were confronted by the male subject who was the focus of the 911 call, and during the contact the subject attacked one of the officers with a knife and the officers shot and fatally wounded the subject,” said a statement issued by the District Attorney’s Office early this morning.

Central Oregon Major Incident Team agencies responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation. Agencies involved include Bend and Redmond police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Oregon State Police Crime Lab, and the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, no information was immediately available regarding possible injuries sustained by officers, or the identity of the deceased.  The investigation is ongoing and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
