A male body, appearing to have been in the water for “some time”, was discovered floating face down in a canal in northeast Bend, Oregon on Friday, deputies reported.
According to a news release prepared by Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy Lt. Erik Utter, 911 Dispatch received a report of a possible drowning victim in the canal behind a home at 21165 Scottsdale Drive on September 14.
Deputies accompanied by personnel with Search and Rescue, Bend Fire, and Bend Police responded to the scene and found the body, that of a male possibly in his 30s to early 40s, in the canal near the west bank.
A joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and Bend Police is continuing. An autopsy by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s office is being scheduled.
“At this time, the cause and manner of death are unknown,” Utter said, adding that the identity of the deceased has yet to be determined.
