Oregon State Police troopers are still on scene of today’s early morning fatal traffic crash on Highway 97 south of Sunriver. The highway remains closed and a detour is allowing traffic to get around the scene.
Preliminary information provided by Oregon State Police (OSP) indicates that shortly before 7 a.m. September 29, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with three occupants traveling northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 157 drifted across the centerline and crashed head-on into a commercial truck towing a trailer-load of sheet rock. The truck attempted to avoid the collision with the SUV by moving onto the shoulder, but was hit near the highway fog-line markings.
All three occupants of the SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene. The three occupants of the truck were not injured, said an OSP news release.
No names or further details are being released at this time. OSP troopers from the Bend area command office are conducting the ongoing investigation.
