Oregon Transportation Commission approves Oregon Transportation Plan
by Bend Weekly News Sources

Last week, the Oregon Transportation Commission approved the final version of the Oregon Transportation Plan, the state’s long-range transportation plan for Oregon's airports, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, highways and roadways, pipelines, ports, public transportation and railroads. The OTP, first developed in 1992, establishes policies, strategies and initiatives for addressing statewide challenges and opportunities in the next 25 years. It serves as a guide to transportation investment decisions at the state, regional and local levels.

Based on research, trends and financial analyses, the 2006 Oregon Transportation Plan identifies the need for strategic investments and innovative solutions to address the challenges of a growing state population and a competitive global economy. It also identifies strategies to gain greater efficiencies, including better integration of the various modes of transportation, maintaining the system we currently have, and working closely with public and private partners to maximize taxpayer resources. The plan will be implemented in a number of ways including through state mode/topic plans and regional and local transportation system plans. The full plan can be viewed at
