LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A convicted sex offender has been arrested in the June disappearance and killing of a 4-year-old Louisville, Ky., boy.
Cecil E. New, 46, was picked up Wednesday and charged with murder in the death of Cesar Aguilar-Cano, who had vanished from his family's apartment in late June and was found dead in a trash truck eight days later.
WLKY-TV, Louisville, said New was on police radar during the early stages of the investigation. He had been a registered sex offender since 2000 and lived in the same neighborhood as the missing boy.
Police searched New's home shortly after Cesar vanished and were awaiting the result of DNA testing on evidence found during the investigation, the report said.
