NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - An Indiana woman who gave birth in a bathroom after claiming she was not pregnant pleaded guilty Thursday to neglect of a dependent.
Kyle Peterson faces up to four years in prison when she is sentenced in January. At Thursday's hearing, her lawyer asked the judge to allow her to serve her sentence in the Hamilton County Jail instead of the Indiana Women's Prison, the Noblesville Ledger reported.
Peterson was an 18-year-old high school student when she gave birth at her home in Carmel in 2005. She left the baby in the toilet, but her mother rescued the newborn girl.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp said the child is living with her father and "doing amazingly well."
