Lieberman allies with McCain
by UPI

HILLSBOROUGH, N.H. -- U.S. presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., received an endorsement Monday from Democrat turned independent, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.

"As president, John McCain will bring America together again," Lieberman told a gathering in Hillsborough, N.H. "He will inspire a new American unity and a new American patriotism. He will push all of us to work together to solve our biggest problems, and defeat our most dangerous enemies.

McCain then spoke, saying he was "deeply honored" by the endorsement, from someone he respects.

"He (Lieberman) has stood tall against the prevailing winds on national security and understands why we must succeed in Iraq and in the broader war against radical Islamic extremism," McCain said. "He is a principled leader, a good friend, and I am proud to have his support."

Lieberman, who caucuses with the Democrats, holds the lone vote that gives Democrats a majority in the 100-member Senate, and he is also chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
