Peterson's cars, guns to stay with police
by UPI

JOLIET, Ill. -- A Joliet, Ill., judge ruled two cars, 11 guns and other items belonging to Drew Peterson can remain with police as they investigate his wife's disappearance.

Peterson, 53, petitioned the court Monday for the items' return, saying he was spending $350 a week to rent a minivan, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The items were seized after Stacy Peterson disappeared on Oct. 28. Illinois State Police are considering the disappearance a possible homicide.

Judge Daniel Rozak said he will consider the request again next month.

Rozak didn't respond to a request to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate information leaks from the special grand jury proceedings concerning Drew Peterson, the Joliet News Herald reported.

Joel Brodsky, one of Peterson's lawyers, wrote in the request if his client is ever charged with a crime, it would be impossible to have a fair trial because of publicity.

"We urge this court to act quickly as time is of the essence. Every day some new matter emanating from the special grand jury is made public," Brodsky wrote.
