McCain may be ousted from Vote Smart
by UPI

WASHINGTON - McCain's failure to fill out a questionnaire for a voter-information research group could result in his removal from the board, the group's president said.

Richard Kimball, president of Project Vote Smart, said the U.S. senator from Arizona and Republican presidential candidate, who is a founding board member of the group, may lose his position at the project unless he answers the issues questionnaire, The Washington Times reported Friday.

Kimball said lawmakers have previously been removed from the board for refusing to answer the questionnaires.

"It's a little embarrassing for us," Kimball said. "We hope all the candidates will change their mind and provide the information."

Project Vote Smart provides nonpartisan information on the issues supported by candidates for public office and incumbents.

A spokesman for McCain's presidential campaign said the rapid pace of the campaign schedule likely led to the questionnaire being overlooked.

"I don't think it's intentional," spokesman Brian Rogers told the Times. "We have been focused on the primaries and apparently there was a delay."
