SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall University in New Jersey went into lock-down mode Monday night after a man wounded himself with a gun while sitting in a vehicle, officials said.
A spokesman for Essex County prosecutor's office said the man, identified as Anthony Papalia, 22, of Aberdeen, N.J., was in stable condition in a Newark hospital with a stomach wound, The New York Times reported.
Papalia was not a Seton Hall student but apparently had wanted to see a woman enrolled there, a school spokesman told the newspaper. The shooting occurred in a vehicle near Xavier Hall dormitory.
The university sent e-mail and text messages to its students, telling them to stay in their rooms. The campus reopened about 40 minutes later, the Times reported.
