Potomac primary voters head to polls
by UPI

WASHINGTON - Sen. Barack Obama, coming off a weekend sweep five voting contests, headed into the so-called Potomac primaries looking for three more wins.

Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia have two demographic groups -- black voters and affluent, educated white voters -- that exit polls show Obama has done well with before, CNN reported Tuesday.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will be trying to blunt the momentum Obama picked up during the weekend's primaries and caucuses. In play are 171 convention delegates.

Republicans, too, are on the ballots in the three primaries, battling for a total of 119 delegates. While Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is the presumptive nominee, results in Virginia could demonstrate whether conservatives -- some of whom have questioned how conservative McCain's positions are -- are willing to back him or former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
