TOLEDO, Ohio - A spokesman for the mayor of Toledo, Ohio, has been suspended for three weeks for using vulgar language to a radio producer and a newspaper columnist.
Brian Schwartz's suspension is more fallout from a controversy that began when Mayor Carty Finkbeiner blocked the Marines from holding an urban warfare exercise in Toledo, the Toledo Blade reported.
About 200 members of a Marine unit based in Grand Rapids, Mich., encountered a police roadblock when they arrived in Toledo last Friday. The mayor said he only learned about the planned drill when he read about it in the Blade that morning.
Schwartz reportedly used vulgar language during a telephone discussion about having the mayor appear on a local radio station. Then, while talking to a Blade columnist, he responded "It sucks to be me," when asked how he was doing, the Blade said.
