LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles city inspectors ordered Studio City car wash owners to get rid of a 60 foot commemorative mural on a wall next to the building, a report said.
City inspectors gave the order 59 days after city leaders revealed it to the public as a celebration of the 60-year history of the business. Studio City Hand Car Wash owners face a $1,000 penalty or six months in jail if they do not carry out the order, the Los Angeles Daily News reported Wednesday.
"I am furious that they have found this to be a violation when we're just beautifying Studio City," publicist Jack McGrath said.
The owners reportedly received a notice from the Department of Building Safety on Friday that said the artwork must be destroyed by March 1, unless a mural permit is obtained.
The owner of the car wash, Ben Forat, said he plans to place a theater curtain over the sign while he applies for a permit, the newspaper said.
