DALLAS - A motorcycle police officer was killed in Dallas Friday escorting Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York to a campaign rally.
Reports said the female officer was thrown about 30 feet to 40 feet from her bike while escorting Clinton's motorcade, CNN reported. Clinton was traveling from Austin to Dallas.
The cause of the accident was being investigated. The pavement was dry but the sky was overcast
"I'm devastated," Clinton said. "We are just heartsick."
She extended her condolences to the officer's family and to the Dallas police department.
