People request Detroit Mayor's resignation
by UPI

DETROIT - A Detroit city councilman has called for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign after documents from a secret $8.4 million whistle-blower settlement were released.

A resignation request by Councilman Kwame Kenyatta unanimously passed out of committee Thursday, The Detroit News reported. The resolution was expected to be taken up by the city council Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press said.

Former Detroit Police Deputy Chief Gary Brown, who was one of the three whistle-blower police officers who received $8.4 million as part of a city attorney cover-up agreement, demanded Kilpatrick's resignation Wednesday.

"I think for the good of the city of Detroit, after everything that's been released so far, the mayor should resign immediately," Brown said.

Brown's statements come after the release of a hidden agreement, in which lawyers said they would cover up text messages that infer Kilpatrick may have interfered in the whistle-blower trial.

Brown reportedly claims he was fired to keep the mayor's misbehavior secret. The alleged misbehavior includes a possible 2002 Manoogian Mansion party, payroll padding and on-the-job drinking by Kilpatrick's security officers.
