Missing rabbi found dead in river
by UPI

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Police found the body of a 91-year-old missing rabbi Thursday afternoon in his car in the Hackensack River in northern New Jersey.

Investigators believe that Rabbi Zev Segal got lost after leaving the Jersey City radio station where his son, Nachum, hosts a morning show and accidentally drove into the river, WABC-TV reported. He was last seen at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Family members said that Segal, who lived in New York City, was alert in spite of his age. He had an appointment at a school in Livingston after leaving the WFMU studio.

Police and volunteers were involved in the search for Segal. His car was spotted in the river in Jersey City at low tide.

"He was very, very well liked in the Lower East Side and always used to kibitz with everybody," Rabbi Jack Meyer, who serves the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police, told WABC. "There was no ever anybody telling him what to do. He had a mind of his own. He's going to be missed by everybody who knew him."
