ST. LOUIS - John McCain, the presumptive Republican U.S. presidential nominee, is feverishly trying to offset his Democratic rivals' fundraising advantage, a report said.
The Los Angeles Times reported that McCain, who clinched the GOP nomination last week, held a fundraiser Monday in St. Louis, Mo., where tickets cost $1,000 for a reception, or $2,300 for the reception plus a photo opportunity with the Arizona senator.
McCain is holding a fundraiser tour this week with stops Tuesday in Manhattan, Wednesday in Boston, Thursday in Philadelphia and Friday in Chicago, the newspaper reported.
The McCain camp, which raked in $55 million last month, said it plans 20 to 30 fundraising events a month to help catch up with Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who collected $138 million and $141 million respectively.
