Obama, Clinton focus on McCain
by UPI

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The two Democratic U.S. presidential hopefuls focused on the presumptive Republican nominee as they stumped across Pennsylvania.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., rarely mentioned party rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., as he crisscrossed the state, lobbing salvos at Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the Chicago Tribune reported.

McCain offers "four more years of the (U.S. President George) Bush policies that have put our economy into a recession and put the American Dream out of reach for so many working people," Obama said during a town hall meeting in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Clinton focused on McCain and the economy in a Philadelphia appearance.

"John McCain admits he doesn't understand the economy, and, unfortunately, he's proving that day after day on the campaign trail," Clinton told the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. "I think we've had enough of a president who didn't know enough about economics, and didn't do enough for the American middle class."

Clinton leads in polls in Pennsylvania, where her grandparents settled and her father grew up, The New York Times said. Obama has begun a six-day bus tour and rolled out an an advertising blitz, trying to close the gap.

The Pennsylvania primary is April 22.
