Jacksons seek Secret Service e-mails
by UPI

CHICAGO -- Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., and his father Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. are demanding the U.S. Secret Service hand over documents involving them.

The two plan to file a freedom of information request following a newspaper story indicating the Jackson family may have been the subject of racially-insensitive Secret Service e-mails, The Chicago Southtown Star reported Wednesday.

The e-mails were submitted as evidence in a racial discrimination suit filed against the Secret Service by 10 African-American agents.

One of the e-mails, entitled the "righteous reverend," contains a joke that ends with a child saying that if a jet carrying Jackson Sr. and his wife were shot down it would be neither a great loss nor an accident.

"My family is deeply concerned and distressed by reports that federal law enforcement officials were disseminating information and anecdotes about a possible assassination of our father and mother, " Rep. Jackson Jr. said in a prepared statement.
