HOUSTON - Houston police say a dead body was found in the passenger seat of a pickup truck used in a police chase after a shooting.
Police said an officer responding to calls of a shooting at Mambo Restaurant pursued the pickup truck from the scene of the crime this week, the Houston Chronicle said Thursday.
The driver of the truck reportedly fired a semiautomatic rifle at the officer, along with pursuing Harris County sheriff's deputies, during the pursuit.
After the gunfire failed to stop the police pursuit, the fleeing suspect pulled the vehicle over and surrendered to the officers.
An ensuing search of the truck uncovered the body of a man in the vehicle's passenger seat who appeared to have been shot, police said.
The identity of the victim and the suspect were not released and investigators would not reveal who owned the truck used in Wednesday night's pursuit.
The Chronicle said no charges have been filed in relation to the incident.
