RALEIGH, N.C. - A Republican National Committee member from North Carolina says Michael Steele should no longer serve as the committee's chairman.
North Carolina's national committeewoman, Dr. Ada Fisher, said in an e-mail to her fellow committee members that Steele should resign his RNC post for his attempts to make GOP officials appeal to the black community, The Hill said Thursday.
"I don't want to hear anymore (sic) language trying to be cool about the bling in the stimulus package or appealing to D.L. Hughley and blacks in a way that isn't going to win us any votes and makes us frankly appear to many blacks as quite foolish," Fisher said, referring to popular black comedian Hughley.
Fisher, who is black, has been an outspoken opponent of Steele's in the past and supported South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson in January's chairmanship vote.
Fisher also noted conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh's comments Monday that he does not see Steele as the current head of the Republican Party, the Hill said.
"Limbaugh has already promised that 'His Conservatives' won't be giving to the RNC. I would suggest to you that that is a real bet," Fisher suggested.
