Pa. woman's lice charges dismissed
by UPI

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania woman won't have to face trial on child-endangerment charges after letting her children go to school with head lice, a judge ruled Tuesday.

However, Nicole Holmes, 28, of Waynesburg, Pa., still is on the hook for six similar counts in an unrelated case, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Fayette County, Pa., Judge John Wagner dismissed two counts of child endangerment stemming from a police complaint filed in Washington Township, Pa., which alleged two of Holmes' six children were found in February 2008 to be infested with lice at their elementary school and that Holmes refused to pick them up, the newspaper said.

Assistant District Attorney Jack Heneks said that Holmes is awaiting trial on six additional charges of child endangerment filed in March 2008.

In that case, police allege the youngsters' grandparents called them after learning a neighbor was watching the children because Holmes had allegedly passed out after snorting three Xanax tablets, the Tribune-Review reported.
