SEBASTIAN, Fla. -- A Florida woman told police she kept her mother's mummified remains in a bedroom for six years because she didn't have the money to bury her.
Officers found the body of Timmie Jordan on a bed after Penelope Sharon Jordan, 61, allowed them to enter her home in Sebastian, Fla., the Web site TCPalm.com reported Wednesday.
The 61-year-old day-care teacher told police her mother, who was born in 1913, died of old age in 2003.
A police spokesman said an autopsy performed Tuesday by the state Medical Examiner's Office uncovered no evidence of foul play in the woman's death.
Penelope Jordan has been charged with grand theft and fraud for continuing to collect her mother's Social Security checks, TCPalm.com said. She is being held at the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
