AMERICAN FORK, Utah -- Two 11-year-old boys in American Fork, Utah, may face criminal charges for searching for online pornography on one of their school's computer, police say.
Authorities said the unidentified boys could face charges of dealing in material harmful to a minor or viewing pornography at school for locating pornographic images online and showing them to other students, The Salt Lake Tribune said Wednesday.
The boys, who were suspended by Forbes Elementary School for two days, searched for the word "lesbian" online and found adult images that were not caught by the school's Internet filter, American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow said.
Ludlow told the Tribune that authorities were not seeking to "hammer" the two boys, but they were concerned that the images were shown to nine other students at the school.
"Our main emphasis is not to hammer these kids," he said. "If we can get them into the juvenile justice system and make sure they're getting some counseling or other services, that's our end goal."
