MIAMI -- Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez has been named a trustee at the University of Miami, the school announced Tuesday.
Gutierrez, who served in the George W. Bush administration, also is a non-resident scholar at the university's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American studies, The Miami Herald reported.
As a trustee, Gutierrez will help govern the university, one of the largest private research universities in the southeastern United States.
Other new trustees include Matthew E. Rubel, the chairman and CEO of Collective Brands, and T. Mechelle Francis, a doctoral student in international studies and president of the university's Graduate Student Association.
