ISLIP, N.Y. - A young New York state man has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl he met via MySpace.
Zachary Rapoza, 20, who called himself the "Bayport Kid" on his MySpace page, was arrested at a train station in Long Island after his alleged victim's father was able to reach her by phone, Newsday reported.
Investigators say he and the girl arranged a tryst on-line. On Monday, she left the family home by climbing through a window and left with Rapoza in his jeep.
Detective Sgt. Thomas Groneman said the father did his best to monitor his daughter's Internet use. But he said the girl apparently gained access to a computer that was not password protected or learned her father's password.
After he learned his daughter was missing, the father found a strange number on his caller ID, police said. He called and she called back a few minutes later, telling him that she and Rapoza were on a train heading toward New York City.
Many of the 51 friends listed on Rapoza's MySpace page were young girls, some of them pictured in their underwear, Newsday said.
