Vancouver Police are investigating the death of a five-year-old girl who was killed when she rode her bicycle into a passing vehicle late Sunday morning, authorities reported.
The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of SE 188th Street, and when police arrived medical personnel with Vancouver Fire and AMR were administering add to the child, Selena Bailey.
According to witnesses including a 9-year-old child, it appears as if Selena was not aware of a 1999 Ford F350 driving west on SE 11th Street. Kenneth Johns, the driver of the pickup was near the intersection at SE 188th Avenue when the child apparently turned into his lane of traffic and collided with the front passenger side of his vehicle.
Police said Selena was thrown to the ground and suffered significant head injuries. She was transported to SW Washington Medical Center where she died.
Vancouver police report that Selena was not wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the collision.
According to a news release, the investigation is ongoing but preliminary information indicates that speed or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
