One dead, two injured in Houston shooting
by Cheryl McDermott

HOUSTON, Tex. -  One man died, a second is in critical condition, and a third was treated and released from an area hospital after being shot by two men near the Highway 59 South service road in Houston on Tuesday.

Houston Police homicide Sergeant C.E. Elliott and Officer J.C. Bonaby identified the dead man as Jose Amilcar Reyes Guidos, 43, of El Salvador.  Moises DeJesus Mejia, 34, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition, and the third man was wounded in the arm, treated, and released.  Both Guidos and Mejia were shot in the head, officers said.

Police said two Hispanic males walked up to a Ford pickup that was stopped in traffic on the freeway exit ramp and shot several times.  The Ford pickup sped off, ran a red light and struck a car.  According to a news release, several people in the pickup ran after the collision.

Witnesses reported a green Chevrolet pickup with Texas license plates (26R-JS2) followed the Ford through the intersection, and a Hispanic male got out and shot at the Ford and the fleeing men.  Other Hispanic males shot from the passenger side of the Chevy.

Mejia, the man reported in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, was shot in the intersection and run over by the Chevy as it left the scene.

The driver of the silver pickup reportedly pulled into a nearby parking lot where the remaining occupants fled, and Guidos was found dead in the bed of the truck.

According to investigators, the third victim was apparently struck in the arm with a stray bullet as he was crossing the street.

The investigation is ongoing, and homicide detectives ask anyone who has information regarding the incident of the green Chevrolet pickup to call 713.308.3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS.
