ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A Florida father and son who spent 14 hours floating in Tampa Bay after their boat sank were treated for exposure after their rescue.
"We're hurting. We're pretty banged up," Stefan Meyering, 26, told The Tampa Tribune.
"We're hurting. We're pretty banged up," Stefan Meyering, 26, told The Tampa Tribune.
Meyering said he and his father, Fredrik Hendrik Meyerink, 67, went fishing Saturday night when their boat started to take on water.
"We were 1 1/2 to 2 miles out ... when we noticed we were taking on water," Meyering told the Tribune. "We tried to get the boat turned around to head back, but it happened so fast. All we could do was grab our life jackets."
A strong current pulled them away from the boat, and the two men tried to swim to shore. At 8:30 a.m. Sunday, a boat saw them and called for help. A St. Petersburg Fire Rescue crew pulled them from the water.
