Mom of microwave baby wants her back
by UPI

GALVESTON, Texas - A Texas woman whose baby was burned when the child's father allegedly put the girl in a microwave oven is seeking custody of the infant.

"I'm battling custody on my daughter because they are doing me wrong,"

Eva Marie Mauldin, 20, told the Houston Chronicle.

Mauldin's husband, Joshua Joyce Mauldin, 19, was charged with felony injury to a child after he allegedly placed the couple's 2-month-old daughter in a microwave oven for 10 to 20 seconds, the Chronicle reported. He told police he was under stress.

The baby was placed in a foster home with parents trained to care for her skin grafts after being released from a Shriners Burns Hospital, a Children's Protective Services spokeswoman told the newspaper.

The Chronicle said that Eva Mauldin refused to discuss the May 10 night her husband allegedly put her daughter in the oven.

"I think Joshua is responsible for what he did," Eva Mauldin told the Chronicle. "I think he has mental illness and should be treated for it," instead of going to jail.

Eva Mauldin said she followed her husband from Arkansas to Texas because Joshua Mauldin wanted to become a minister.
