WASHINGTON - President George Bush's job approval rating has sunk to 29 percent in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, his lowest number ever in the survey.
The poll released Wednesday shows Congress' approval rating has fallen to 23 percent, and just 19 percent of those polled think the United States is on the right track -- the lowest number on that question in almost 15 years.
Sixty-eight percent said they think the country is on the wrong track.
Bush's anemic rating is a sign Republicans are abandoning him, NBC News said. It represents a six-point drop from Bush's approval rating when the poll was last conducted in April.
At that time, 75 percent of Republicans said the approved of Bush's performance in office. In the current survey, Bush's approval among Republicans is just 62 percent.
Congress' approval rating has fallen eight points since April.
The survey of 1,008 adults was conducted from June 8-11, and has a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
