HOUSTON -- Harris County, Texas, authorities said a woman was killed when she attempted to stop a wrecker from towing her car from the street by her home.
Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. John Martin said the woman, who wasn't identified pending family notification, had attempted to stop her car from being towed from the Lazy Acres Mobile Home and RV Park when she was struck by the wrecker, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday.
"It was not clear if she climbed on top of the vehicle or was hanging onto the vehicle or what she was doing," he told the newspaper.
Martin said witnesses gave varying accounts of the incident but the woman may have been dragged for a short distance. She died from her head injuries at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital.
The Sheriff's Department is seeking the wrecker driver.
Martin told the Chronicle it wasn't known why the car was being towed, as the department was not notified of the towing before the incident.
