LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The hunt for a sniper wanted for killing his estranged wife ended in a rugged region of Wyoming Tuesday when he fatally shot himself as police closed in.
David Munis, 36, was flown to a hospital in Laramie with a chest wound but did not survive, CNN reported.
Munis, a National Guard sergeant trained as a sniper, was sought in the weekend slaying of Robin Munis, 40. She was shot sniper-style as she sang at a Cheyenne restaurant.
Munis' pickup truck was found Monday in Rogers Canyon, a rugged region near Laramie. Dozens of officers aided by dogs and a helicopter combed the area.
Cheyenne Police Capt. Jeff Schulz said authorities found a handwritten message on a wall of Munis' home, apparently written before Robin Munis was shot, that they said was "near-confessional in nature," CNN reported.
"It does not come out and say, 'I did it,'" Schulz said. "It just very clearly points in that direction."
