KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- U.S. authorities on Thursday arrested a contractor who allegedly stole classified documents from a U.S. nuclear facility in Tennessee.
Sources close to the arrest said that federal authorities had been investigating the unidentified suspect for six months since the former low-level employee of the East Tennessee Technology Park allegedly attempted to sell the documents, CNN reported.
One official said that the attempted sale of the classified materials hadn't involved a foreign government.
The man was arrested by FBI officials as part of an operation between the investigative service and the U.S. Department of Energy, a government official told CNN.
CNN said that the suspect was expected to be taken to a federal court to face charges he took the documents from the Department of Energy facility.
