RICHFIELD, Utah -- Authorities in Utah were given hope Monday in their search for a missing horseback rider as witnesses reported seeing a man in the area.
The Salt Lake Tribune said that Kent Renaulfsen, 65, has been missing since Saturday in Sevier County's rugged mountainside but several individuals said they had seen a man standing by campfires in the region.
Renaulfsen had been horseback riding with his wife and a friend Friday when the trio became lost in the mountains.
Without food or water, the group wandered until Saturday when Renaulfsen decided to venture off alone for help.
His wife and friend later were able to get a cell phone signal and were rescued.
Searchers found Renaulfsen's horse Sunday along with evidence that suggested was now dragging his saddle behind him.
The Tribune said the search has grown more desperate since Renaulfsen is without supplies, including warm clothing and food.
